PRIVATE & DUET REFORMER

The whole hour,

actually about you.

Fifty minutes, one reformer, and an instructor who is teaching nobody else.f
THE PRIVATE SESSION

Built for your body,

on the day you show up.

Nobody’s body is the same on a Tuesday as it was the Tuesday before. A private session starts where you actually are: the back that seized on Sunday, the knee that is still cautious, the week you slept badly and have nothing in the tank.

Because it is one-on-one, nothing gets skipped and nothing gets rushed. Your form is corrected while you are doing it, not afterwards. Exercises that are not serving you get dropped. The ones that are get harder.

This is the fastest way to learn what your own body is doing.
ABOUT THE MACHINE

The springs provide adjustable, elastic resistance

– tailored just for you.

This is the part most people have backwards. A reformer is not a machine you need to already be strong for.

Springs add support

Depending on the exercise, more spring often means more assistance. The same movement can be made easier or harder without changing what you are learning.

You are lying down for a lot of it

Which takes your own bodyweight out of the equation. That is why it works for people who find standing work punishing.

It is low impact, not low effort

Nothing pounds through your joints. You will still know you have worked, usually somewhere you did not expect.

Every position adjusts

Straps, footbar, headrest, springs. The machine moves to fit you rather than the other way round.
DUETS

Bring one person,

split the rate.

A duet is the same session on the second reformer, with someone you choose. Your sister, your friend, your partner, your daughter. You still get hands-on cueing, and you still get corrected.

It works best when the two of you are at roughly similar points, because the session moves as a pair. If one of you is brand new and the other has trained for years, a private each will serve you both better.

Plenty of people start in a duet because it is less daunting than being alone in a room with an instructor. That is a perfectly good reason.

WHO CHOOSES PRIVATES

Usually one of

four reasons.

01

You are starting from scratch

Never done Pilates, or not done anything in years. One private teaches you more than a month of copying the person in front of you.
02

Something in your body needs working around

An injury, a surgery, a joint that has never forgiven you. In a group, that gets managed. One-on-one, it gets addressed.
03

You are pregnant or postpartum

What is appropriate changes month to month, and sometimes week to week. That needs someone watching only you. More on prenatal and postnatal.
04

You want to actually progress

Group classes keep you moving. Privates are where the load goes up, the technique sharpens, and the strength shows up in the rest of your life.
